I think a monoclassed Swords Bard in BG3 is actually better than in 5e, due to some changes they've made, although I actually went for a Drow Draconic Sorcerer (White) 1/Swords Bard x build in my current game (am Sorc 1/Bard 3 currently), as I wanted the bonus to Con saves (to help with maintaining concentration on spells) and access to Shield spell, Magic Missile, and Armour of Agathys.
