The Zonai ruins in BotW always reminded me strongly of Mesoamerican architecture and artwork, and it's not even the first time the Zelda devs have used Mesoamerica as inspiration. Odolwa for example seems to be speaking in Mayan and the Woodfall Temple has a lot of Mesoamerican motifs.
