This optional side trail climbs just over 900 feet - in less than nine-tenths of a mile - to reach the top of the Continental Divide, and provides hikers with a commanding birds-eye view of The Salamander and Grinnell Glacier on the opposite side. At 7.6 miles hikers will reach the Granite Park Trail junction.

We took the trail down to the Loop to catch the shuttle back to Logan Pass. It was all down hill from the Chalet and about 4.6 miles. Total hike was just under 12 miles. I turned the hike off early. Bring lots of sunscreen and water. Watch for bears. There was a grizzly about 5 minutes behind us at the intersection with the Grinnell Glacier trail.
